Mrs Doubtfire (12) Charity Evening

June 21 @ 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Tonight we are teaming up with Jess Gallier from the Martin Gallier Project. Five Pounds from every ticket sold will be donated to this Charity.

The Martin Gallier Project (Gallier House C.I.C 11665047) is fiercely dedicated to preventing suicides, breaking down stigmas & supporting families in the North West. The project was set up in memory of my father who took his own life in 2017 aged 55. The one of a kind project has been put together to tackle the areas we found to be lacking during Dads journey with mental illness, the missed opportunities to save his life & the situations that we believed to be be damaging to the family following his suicide.

We provide funded Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ( Suicide First Aid) to those supporting an individual who has previously attempted suicide. We know that 38% of individuals who died by suicide in Cheshire and Merseyside during 2017 had a previous suicide attempt on record. The National Lottery invested in us to target this pocket of people however with further funding we would love to open the criteria up to cover more high risk pockets e.g. the construction industry, those bereaved by suicide & young people.

In February 2019 we opened Wirral’s first and only Suicide Prevention Centre, based at 57 New Chester Road, New Ferry. The centre is a non clinical setting which now offers a range of activities that promote wellbeing with an overall focus on suicide prevention. We are well aware that those bereaved by suicide are at much higher risk of ending their own life, so they partnered with SOBS to offer Bereavement By Suicide support groups. The centre offers suicide specific bereavement counselling & CBT for both children and adults with no stipulation of a 6 month wait following the suicide (traditional NHS guidance means that families aren’t able to be referred until 6 months has passed). We don’t currently have a wait for talking therapies.

The Martin Gallier Project offer walking groups for new mums who may be isolated, a men’s group for men to talk openly. We accept individuals in self assessed crisis & chaperone individuals in crisis to A&E and wait until they are assessed. The centre also offers crystal healing, stress management workshops, arts & crafts, creative writing & peer support. We controversially mix individuals bereaved by suicide with those suffering with suicidal thoughts and believe it helps both parties.

Jess Gallier

As most of us know Robin William’s committed suicide not to long ago. Tonight’s film is in memory of him,
Troubled that he has little access to his children, divorced Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) hatches an elaborate plan. With help from his creative brother Frank (Harvey Fierstein), he dresses as an older British woman and convinces his ex-wife, Miranda (Sally Field), to hire him as a nanny. “Mrs. Doubtfire” wins over the children and helps Daniel become a better parent — but when both Daniel and his nanny persona must meet different parties at the same restaurant, his secrets may be exposed.
Come along, show your support. There will be a range of activities and fundraisers over the coming weeks. Jess and her team will be at the venue early offering free advice and support.
